Our Story
Established in 1977, the Apple Farm Restaurant has been a beloved destination in San Luis Obispo for decades. Known for its hearty American breakfast our famous French toast, egg benedict, and stake & eggs proudly served both travelers staying at the charming Apple Farm Inn and local residents looking for a warm, comforting meal.
The restaurant itself actually predates the Apple Farm Inn, which was added in the late 1980s. In fact, our story began in the early 1970s, when founder Bob Davis, along with his wife, Katy, and their two sons, would regularly commute to San Luis Obispo. During these drives, Bob realized there was a real need for a welcoming, family-friendly restaurant in the area.
In 1977, Bob purchased the building at 2015 Monterey Street—home to Sam’s, a small local restaurant—and transformed it into the Apple Farm Restaurant. His vision was to create a warm, country-style dining experience that felt like coming home. According to an article in the Telegram-Tribune in 1987, Bob described the restaurant as a place where families could gather and enjoy wholesome meals made with care.
As the years passed, the property evolved into much more than just a restaurant. Today, the Apple Farm features a charming inn and motel, the Marketplace filled with unique local gifts, and the bakery for pastry lovers and foodies alike. Through thoughtful renovations and expansions, we’ve grown to become a cherished community landmark—still offering the same warm hospitality and delicious comfort food that started it all.
Whether you’ve joined us for breakfast with friends, grabbed a bite to-go, or explored our Marketplace. Now under new management by Vespinza LLC, we welcome you! Let us continue to be part of your favorite traditions. Thank you for making the Apple Farm a part of your story, too.
